CALL FOR RESIDENTS

NIGHT/SHIFT is seeking Residents for our inaugural Online Arts Residency, taking place from March 1st to September 27th, 2025.

Our first online Residency program is targeted specifically to those working in Harm Reduction and related fields who do, have, or desire to maintain a creative / artistic practice in addition to that work. The Residency will be structured to operate around the demands of this essential field, and will seek to expand the artistic skill, knowledge, and community of those taking part. The goal of this targeted Residency is to facilitate greater time and space within the lives of participants for creative pursuits, while also helping to integrate the radical potentials that Harm Reduction and Contemporary Art possess in relation to one another.

If you work within Harm Reduction or a related field, and want to be able to dedicate further time to your artistic practice, or expand your knowledge and experience base within the arts, then please apply using the criteria listed below. All Harm Reduction work will be considered valid for application purposes, including both paid and unpaid labour, (such as those volunteering, peer workers, those in activist groups, etc.) and all levels of artistic or creative experience are more than welcome to apply, including those with no formal arts education or professional exhibition experience. Your creative work may also be in any medium, or related to any theme or topic; it does not need to relate to Harm Reduction specifically.

To apply to be a 2025 Online Resident, please send an application package including each of the following:

1) A 250-750 Word Creator Bio
, including your education (either formal or informal), your professional/exhibition experience, (if any) your current work within Harm Reduction or a related field, (there’s no need to disclose current or former workplaces, or any other details you consider sensitive) as well as any other information about yourself that you feel is relevant to your application, such as background, lived experience, or communities that you are a part of.

2) A 250-750 Word Statement of Interest, describing your current creative practice, as well as your reasons for submitting specifically to NIGHT/SHIFT, and what you feel you’ll get out of taking part in the Residency.

3) Two or three examples of Creative Works which reflect your current practice or creative direction. This could include images, audio or video files, examples of writing, or anything else relevant to your application. Please submit all examples as either Mac compatible files, or web links (please also ensure that all links are accessible to us, either by making them public or sharing any required passwords, etc.)

4) Contact information, including an email address, name (if submitting as a group or collective, please include both the group name and the individual names of each member) as well as any other relevant information, such as your pronouns.

Creators at all levels of experience are welcome to apply. Unfortunately, at this time we are only able to facilitate applications written in English.

The current CALL FOR RESIDENTS will be open until September 27th, 2024 at 11:59pm EST.
